This was never just about growing a plant

We wanted to understand how to do it better.

So before moving towards medicinal cannabis operations, we spent years undertaking cannabis research under the Queensland regulatory framework.

We worked on site. We tested. We learned. We adapted.

Different genetics. Different growing environments. Protected cropping. Plant health. Pest and disease management. Post-harvest methods. Australian conditions.

And one question kept coming up:

How much can nature do for us if we stop trying to replace it?

That question has shaped much of what came next.

Australia has something pretty valuable when it comes to growing plants.

Sunlight.

Ben, one of our co-founders, is a naturopath and herbalist. His background has always influenced the way we think about plants — understand them, understand their environment and, where practical, work with nature rather than against it.

That philosophy led us towards a cultivation approach that makes greater use of natural sunlight, supported by protected cropping, environmental management and modern horticultural technology.

Not technology for technology’s sake.
And not nature for nature’s sake.
A balance between the two.

The aim is to use Australia’s natural advantages more intelligently, reduce unnecessary inputs and build a cultivation model designed around our unique conditions.

It started as a tagline.
It became a pretty good description of what we are trying to build.

For us, Cannabis with a Conscience means asking better questions.
Can we use fewer unnecessary inputs?
Can we make better use of natural resources?
Can we build more of the supply chain here?
Can we create an economically viable Australian alternative to imported medicinal cannabis?
And can everyday Australians have the opportunity to own part of the company trying to do it?

    Australia imports a significant amount of its medicinal cannabis. We want to help build a strong local alternative.

    Our goal is an Australian-grown model with greater oversight of cultivation inputs, growing conditions and supply-chain decisions.

    Growing locally also gives us something else — the ability to design our systems around the environment we actually have.

    The aim is not simply to grow in Australia.

  • 2| The Research came first

    Our research program was not something added later to make the story sound good.

    It was the starting point.

    Years of on-site cannabis R&D gave us practical knowledge about cultivation efficiency, growing environments, genetics, plant performance and the use of natural resources.

    That program has now concluded.

    What remains is the knowledge.

    And that knowledge continues to influence the infrastructure, systems and cultivation approach behind The People’s Plant®.

  • 3| Then something else happened

    People started getting behind it.

    The People’s Plant® began as a family-founded business, started by siblings Bec and Ben and their cousin Tim.

    But it didn’t stay a small family story for long.

    Through multiple crowd-sourced funding raises, close to 2,500 people have become shareholders.

    More than 24,000 people now follow us across email and social media.

    Some have been with us for years.
    They have seen the research.
    The builds.
    The setbacks.
    The wins.
    And everything in between.

    That openness matters to us.

    Because if you call yourself The People’s Plant®, the people should actually be part of it.

  • 4| Where We Are Now

    Our years of cannabis research have concluded.

    The People’s Plant® operates through Ausmedicann Pty Ltd, which holds a medicinal cannabis licence issued by the Australian Government Office of Drug Control.

    We are now progressing the infrastructure, security, systems and regulatory work required for the relevant ODC permit application.

    Medicinal cannabis cultivation and production have not yet commenced and will only begin once the required permit and other applicable regulatory approvals are in place.

    That’s where we are.

    No pretending we’re further ahead.

    No hiding how much work is still involved.

    Just continuing to build.
